So, my overnight stay, have a lekker shower, rugby, whisky, braai, hunting stories & great assistance in saving a huge amount of precious diesel, had come to an end.
Johann, Monique & their daughter, not to mention the soon to arrive, new baby Adam, along with the trackers, had brought me back from the edge of despair.
Nyati needed fuel & water tank repairs… But how urgently, really ? The front tank was holding diesel below the crack line & the rear tank was full. 4 of Johann's jerry cans were stashed inside… We had more fuel than Ka Kolk had sheep.
Ja, sure it was a holiday weekend & Nyati wasn't booked in… So what ?
Ready or not, Kgalagadi here we come.
Check out the pictures of this dry land.
How does anyone survive out here ?
Yet survive they do, &, in their own special way, they thrive.
May God bless them all.
Hi Paul
Left you a comment about a week ago but noticed that the comment was discarded?? De Rust is now in the busy season… a lot of people is booking in and out. Weekends is a nightmare, up to 200+ people on Saturdays and Sundays! Year end functions, wedding and family reunions…
Still, Nayti’s place is vacant, is as if everybody that come here to camp somehow knows that that spot is special….. like holy ground…….lol!
The Bushmanland, the Sandveld, Namaqualand, and the Orange river (Upington to the West coast) is very close to my heart, that’s where I was born and grow up…. yes, in that isolated desert were you’ll find nothing for 100’s of km’s.
Kabous and Christene left for Kerksdorp and now i’m left with only the locals here…… missing all you guys!!
Enjoy every km with Nyati on this adventure! You’ll meet plenty new people but…. never forget the ones that consider them your friends.
God bless and keep those wheels running…….
Charlie
Hi Charles,
Ja, I saw & answerd your comment. I don't know why it didn't come up.
You're so right about this Kalahari. Everybody should have an opportunity to experience it.
I said in my reply to your last comment that you should enjoy the passing parade, Nagdigter, because in amongst them, there are diamonds.
It's good to know you guys're following Nyati. When I start to doubt myself, I read the comments. They always cheer me up.
Just love that photo of the desert. Somehow so peaceful and simple. Was remembering the lion kill we ate off that first trip we did through the Umfolozi!! Sorry theses ones didn’t leave you any offerings on this trip!!
You know, when I tell people about that… About chasing lions off their kill, taking the fillets, walking back to camp & braaing them that night. They don't believe me…
It's one of those experiences that you to be there to understand.
Very good times.
